Ashford International station welcomes first European-width trains
Ashford’s status as a truly international town was confirmed recently with the arrival of the latest high tech train at Ashford International station.
The new Siemens e320, operated by Eurostar, made its inaugural visit to the town, testing newly adapted platforms at the station. The European-grade trains are modern, spacious and wi-fi enabled.
The work to bring the e320 to Ashford is part of a £10m project being delivered by Network Rail and backed by Kent Council and Ashford Borough Council. With platform 3 completed, platform 4 improvements are well underway. Signalling work is ongoing and scheduled to complete by April 2018.
We had a happy moment on Saturday when our friends at @Eurostar sent one of their awesome @Siemens e320 trains to #Ashford for the first time, testing the platforms for our plan with @Kent_cc + @AshfordCouncil to cement Ashford's International status @AshfordFor @love_ashford pic.twitter.com/PvqVm7qjIh— NR South East (@NetworkRailSE) February 18, 2018
