JTL opens latest training centre in Ashford

Leading apprenticeship training provider JTL has invested £500,000 in a new building services engineering centre in Ashford.

The official opening was carried out by the Mayor of Ashford, Cllr Winston Michael, in front of a group of invited guests, including a large number of local employers who already have apprentices training at the centre, based on the Cobbs Wood Industrial Estate.

Cllr Michael said:

“I am passionate about helping young people, and apprenticeships are vital in today’s society to provide real, meaningful career opportunities for our young people locally, and across the UK.

“JTL is already delivering life-changing opportunities for young people in Kent through its centres in Orpington, Maidstone and now here in Ashford. It was a pleasure to be able to be a part of the opening and to meet many of the inspiring apprentices and the JTL staff who will be running the centre. I wish everyone involved huge success.”

JTL chief executive Jon Graham said:

“This centre is the latest we have launched in recent years. In many cases, we work in partnership with local F.E. colleges. But in some parts of the country, we see it as essential to provide our own centres to offer the quality of training that our young people deserve.

“This centre in Ashford is an important step forward for us, and we’re delighted with the response the centre has already had from local employers and young people.”

JTL already has more than 100 apprentices working in the new centre and that is due to rise to 140 over the next two years. Electrical training, including NVQ Electrical Level 2 and 3 apprenticeships, has been taking place there since September and it is hoped that other training will be available soon.

The Ashford centre joins a series of centres around the UK which JTL either owns or operates alongside a partner organisation.

“This centre in Ashford, and the work we do at JTL across the country, is all about building futures and changing lives of our learners, added Jon Graham.
