Mayor opens newly refurbished Bulleid Place play park
A newly refurbished play park in Bulleid Place, Newtown, was officially opened by the Mayor of Ashford on Friday 15 June. Mayor Cllr Jessamy Blanford opened the revamped play area, which is now complete with various different zones including an under six zone, an over six zone, an inclusive zone that has incorporated paths and equipment suitable for wheelchair users and a brand new outdoor gym area.
Speaking at the opening, Mayor Cllr Blanford said:
“It’s fantastic to see so many people here enjoying the new play park. It’s a great asset to the local community and will hopefully bring many people together through their enjoyment of the outdoors.”
On the day, a range of fun activities were organised for people to participate in, including face painting for the children. Free ice cream was also given out to everyone in attendance.
The upgrade to the park was a joint initiative between Ashford Borough Council’s Housing and Cultural departments, with funding provided from the new developments at the old railway works. Ashford has an illustrious railway heritage; a sentiment which has been specifically incorporated into the play area’s under six zone, which is themed around trains and railways.
Prior to the official opening, the park has already proven itself to be an asset to the local community with many more visitors to the area since the installation of the new equipment.
Cllr Mike Bennett, Portfolio holder for Culture at Ashford Borough Council said:
“We are extremely delighted to be able to upgrade the play equipment at Bulleid Place and provide an outdoor gym facility which is free of charge to residents. It’s wonderful to see such developments taking place in the borough, and this is just the latest in a series of play areas to receive improvements of this kind over the past year.”
