Designer Outlet Expansion
Ashford Designer Outlet, near the international railway station, has already been a huge success for the town and that is set to grow with plans to expand the shopping village from 2017 to open in 2019.
Owners McArthurGlen are looking to build on this success, with planning consent given this autumn to add a further 100,000 sq ft to this tented retail mecca. Purveyor of top brands at discounted prices since 2000.
Fifty new stores, restaurants and extra car parking are proposed; an investment that could potentially double the current workforce, creating up to 950 new jobs. A planning application is set to go before Ashford Borough Council this autumn.
Ashford Designer Outlet has fast become an international destination. Customers from the near continent mingle with Londoners and residents from across Kent for top brands at bargain prices – it’s proved a winning formula.
More than three and a half million visitors now travelling to the site each year, ideally located next to Ashford International rail station with its high speed link to London and beyond.
It will mean around 50 new stores including six restaurants and cafes with the potential to create 700 new jobs, doubling the current workforce. It’s a flagship scheme for Kent’s flagship business town – creating stronger links to the station and complementing the town centre offer with different branded retailers.
The expansion will look to create the next generation of designer outlets, reflecting the quality of other flagship McArthurGlen Designer Outlets across Europe. It will create jobs, benefit the economy and establish Ashford Designer Outlet as a major shopping destination.
Work will get underway this year, with Phase two set to welcome its first customers in 2019. Watch this space.
