Congratulations to Kent and East Sussex Railway for being ranked among the top 10% of listings of places to visit around the world.

The Kent and East Sussex Railway (K&ESR) has won Tripadvisor’s® Travellers’ Choice® Awards for 2024 which places them in the top 10% of must see locations across the globe.

The award honours businesses that consistently earn great reviews and demonstrate a commitment to hospitality excellence.

The renowned Tenterden-based heritage railway is celebrating its 50th Anniversary year and operates as an educational charity, staffed almost entirely by volunteers.

“We are honoured to be included among travellers’ favourites this year and can’t thank our visitors enough for their support and positive reviews”

Andre Freeman., K&ESR Commercial Manager

Andre adds: “Sincere thanks also go to the hundreds of dedicated people who work tirelessly - both with visitors and operationally behind the scenes - to deliver an exceptional experience: week in, week out. We look forward to welcoming many more visitors to experience living history and a step away from the everyday on our wonderful heritage line.”

This is an excellent example of the vibrant visitor economy of the borough, and it’s great to see the heritage railway being acknowledged with this award.

The railway offers visitors an authentic steam and diesel-powered railway experience through 10½ miles of Wealden countryside through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Built by Holman F Stephens, it was the first light passenger railway in Britain in the early 20th century and is today one of Britain’s most loved and original heritage lines.
