Tenterden High Street named in top 30 UK shopping destinations
Posted on 10 June 2024Newmark Retail, a leading commercial real estate advisor and retail consultancy, recently named Tenterden in the top 30 retail centres in the UK. Newmark released its annual Vitality Rankings, which take a look at shopping destinations from around the nation to determine how well each is performing.
A range of relevant factors were analysed in order to form the listing, including retail unit vacancy rate, the change in vacancy rate, space being adapted for other uses, shopper spend per annum and footfall figures.
“The sustained trend of working from home, along with a boost in domestic tourism, has led to a notable increase in retail visits in historical centres, outpacing similar locations”.
Vitality Rankings ranking notes
The analysis from Newmark placed Tenterden at 30th in the ranking, ahead of many other centres in the South East. Other Kent retail centres mentioned in the UK’s top 100 list were Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks and Bluewater.
According to Newmark, Tenterden’s ranking has improved since 2019 before the pandemic.
The ranking comes alongside other positive retail news for Tenterden, with plans for The Grapevine Champagne & Jazz Bar opening, the opening of Dominos in the town and independent shops opening such as Lift Your Spirits, Manes Hair Space and Ethel Loves Me.
